I’m doing the same thing as before (I think) but my views have dropped dramatically, which is incredibly discouraging. What the h*ll?

The temptation is to get distracted – think this isn’t working as planned, maybe I should do something different, maybe I should give this other thing a try?

But no, that will not lead to success.

Stay focused, and keep working at it. If it was easy, there’d be no value in it. I need to keep working on this because I know there are only four things I need to focus on, and the first is traffic.

This is my chosen traffic source – there’s nothing else I need to be doing right now.

This is my priority and this is my focus. Everything else can wait – well not my family, not enjoying my life. I’m not going to sacrifice my life to do this (I don’t need to). But when it comes to this business, everything else can wait.

So what am I doing?

A Guide to 1 Million TikTok Views

The first thing I’ve had to get past is calling it a formula. That is inaccurate and thinking about it that way has been frustrating. It’s not X+Y/Z=100K views.

When you say just do these 6 things in each video and you’ll get a million views, but step #1 is to have a great hook, that’s not a formula. But, it is a guide and so I need to stop thinking about it as if it’s a formula, and start thinking about it as a guide. And evaluate the videos I’m doing according to that guide.

And keep on improving.

Every Video I Post Needs

  1. To have a Hook – you’ve got to get the viewer’s attention in the first 5 seconds
  2. The Promise of a Payoff – make it as clear as possible why the viewer should watch the video all the way to the end (this is the whole focus of the video)
  3. Build to the Payoff – every second of the video needs to build towards the payoff, anything that doesn’t should be cut.
  4. The Payoff – the answer to the hook – and the reason why the viewer is watching, so don’t deliver the payoff till the end, otherwise the viewer will stop watching even if you’re video is still going.

So:

  1. Hook
  2. Cut the lulls
  3. Have a payoff at the end
  4. Use relatability to capture people’s attention
  5. Make it shareable
  6. Make it repeatable
  7. Use # to direct the video towards the people who will find it relatable

And that’s it, sounds simple.

Well, maybe not simple. But it gives me something to work on, practice, and improve, and when I know what I need to work on, I can stay focused and not get distracted. And not get discouraged when things aren’t going exactly as I’d like.

  2. Hi, Nathan!
I’m sorry TikTok isn’t improving for you. I don’t know much about TikTok, but I am rooting for you! I looked you up. Your videos are very watchable. I was able to watch them til the end without being antsy. Just keep going, and I’m sure it will improve,

  3. Hi Nathan,
Considering how Dean is helping us use Social Media to get to where we want to AND this little “nugget of a gem” (to use Glenns words) should definitely help me get my Tik Tok videos to where I want them to be.
I also definitely your statement, although I prefer this one: “if it was easy, everyone would be doing it”.

  4. Nathan,

I totally understand your frustration with the drop in TikTok views—it’s definitely tough when things aren’t moving in the direction we expect. Your approach to focusing on a guide rather than a formula is spot on. Sometimes, thinking of these strategies as guidelines rather than rigid formulas can be a game changer and allow us to pivot and be flexible when needed.

The key takeaway from your post is the emphasis on the quality of content. Crafting videos with a strong hook, a clear payoff, and engaging elements is crucial. I’ve also found that consistently analyzing what works and what doesn’t is essential but it’s hard to make actionable steps from data as it seems a lot of it is trial and error and comes with practice. It’s not just about the technical aspects but also about understanding your audience’s evolving preferences.

It’s great that you’re committed to improving and sticking with your chosen traffic source. Even when the results seem slow, persistence and adaptability are often the keys to long-term success. Keep refining your approach and staying focused, and you’ll likely see the results you’re aiming for.

    Thanks for sharing your insights!

  5. Nathan your commitment to staying with your chosen traffic source is very commendable. It would be ashame to throw away all the things you’ve learned so far and having to start from scratch with a new source. Keep pushing forward, if there’s a will there’s a way.

It’s all about the journey, right? Those tips on hooks and payoffs are super helpful. Keep pushing forward; you’ve got this!

Looking forward to seeing your progress!
